Internationales Astronomenteam registriert mit dem ESA-Satellit "Integral" eine bisher unbekannte Art energiearmer Gammastrahlenausbrüche
Ein am 3. Dezember 2003 durch das Gammastrahlenobservatorium "Integral" der ESA entdeckter Gammablitz gehört zu den erdnächsten und zugleich den schwächsten, die man bisher beobachtet hat. Wie ein internationales Team von Astronomen unter Beteiligung von Wissenschaftern des Max-Planck-Instituts für Astrophysik in Garching jetzt herausgefunden hat, legt der Gammablitz mit der Bezeichnung GRB 031203 die Vermutung nahe, dass eine ganze Population von energiearmen Gammablitzen bislang der Beobachtung entgangen ist (Nature, 5. August 2004).
