GFFA expert panel on biomass energy technologies and the policy implications

Daniela Schimming Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Leibniz-Institut für Agrarentwicklung in Transformationsökonomien (IAMO)

Within the framework of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), IAMO in cooperation with the Sino-German Agricultural Centre (DCZ) organises a panel discussion entitled “Innovative Biomass Energy Technologies and their policy implications” on 17 January 2025 in Berlin, Germany.

The guests at the expert panel will discuss the introduction of technologies, policies and market mechanisms in China and Germany in the use of biomass energy to foster a climate-friendly agri-food industry and global food security. Furthermore, future solutions for building climate-smart agri-food systems based on biomass energy technology will be discussed. The aim is to strengthen technical and industrial cooperation, low and zero carbon (LZC) community building and policy exchange between Germany and China in the use of biomass resources, biomass energy and renewable energy industry.

The event promotes the application of biomass energy and green transformation of agricultural production methods. It, furthermore, contributes to Sino-German co-operation in the fields of sustainable agriculture, biomass resources, biomass energy, climate-smart agri-food systems, and promotes future solutions for global climate-friendly development. The forum attempts to strengthen the collaboration between China and Germany on global food security issues. By jointly exploring and addressing issues as the use of biomass resources and food security, China and Germany can further deepen their cooperation in areas of global environmental governance and development of climate-smart agri-food systems. The global context of Sino-German cooperation on these themes is provided by a contribution from the World Resources Institute on sustainable transformation of Global Agri-Food Systems Based on Resource Recycling.

    About GFFA

The 17th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) entitled “Farming a Sustainable Bioeconomy” will be held from 15 to 18 January 2025 in Berlin, Germany. The GFFA is an international conference on agri-food policy issues. It is organised by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) in cooperation with the Messe Berlin GmbH. About IAMO

The Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) analyses economic, social and political processes of change in the agricultural and food sector, and in rural areas. The geographic focus covers the enlarging EU, transition regions of Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, as well as Central and Eastern Asia. IAMO works to enhance the understanding of institutional, structural and technological changes. Moreover, IAMO studies the resulting impacts on the agricultural and food sector as well as the living conditions of rural populations. The outcomes of our work are used to derive and analyse strategies and options for enterprises, agricultural markets and politics. Since its founding in 1994, IAMO has been part of the Leibniz Association, a German community of independent research institutes.
