The University of Stuttgart, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the InnovationCampus Future Mobility (ICM) and Korea University Sejong Campus are joining forces to shape the mobility of the future. Their cooperation focuses on fostering young researchers and promoting academic exchange in the fields of cyber security, autonomous systems and digital, sustainable urban infrastructure.
Mobility is undergoing a profound global transformation: digitalization, artificial intelligence and sustainable development are reshaping not only vehicles, but entire cities and societies. To actively drive this change, the partners are committed to international cooperation. Initiated by the InnovationCampus Future Mobility (ICM), the University of Stuttgart, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Korea University Sejong Campus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 24, 2025, in Stuttgart.
Innovation driven by international collaboration
“Sustainable mobility requires more than technological excellence – it thrives on international cooperation. Together with our new partners from South Korea, we can develop and advance innovative solutions that are sustainable, reliable and globally compatible. We firmly believe that innovation is driven by collaboration,” says Professor Alexander Brem, Vice Rector for Science Transfer and International Affairs at the University of Stuttgart.
“Sustainable mobility emerges where excellent research, social responsibility and international perspectives come together,” says Professor Thomas Hirth, Vice President Transfer and International Affairs at KIT, “For Baden-Württemberg as a key automotive region, it is crucial to embrace new impulses for technological progress from around the world. This cooperation opens up new opportunities for research, innovation and the promotion of early-career researchers – while also enhancing our international visibility.”
Connecting research, promoting talent
The MoU outlines plans for joint research projects, workshops, symposia and exchange programs for students and researchers. The focus areas include trust in autonomous systems, human-technology interaction and software-defined mobility. The aim is to jointly develop technology platforms, share knowledge and foster an international start-up ecosystem.
About the InnovationCampus Future Mobility (ICM)
The InnovationCampus Future Mobility (ICM) is the joint research platform of the University of Stuttgart and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), pursuing a vision of sustainable and emission-free mobility. The partners are pooling their expertise in research and innovation to quickly and flexibly develop new technologies, test new approaches, and create the basis for innovations. The focus lies on interdisciplinary, application-oriented basic research across three research areas: Manufacturing Systems, Mobility Technologies und Software-System-Architectures.
