Fraunhofer SCAI will showcase the latest version of PackAssistant at FACHPACK. Packaging planners worldwide use the software in the automotive, mechanical engineering, and supplier industries. With the new pairing function, users can now pack two parts together as a single unit. They can specify how these parts are arranged, giving them more control over the positioning of the components. A new automation interface also allows the software to be better integrated into specific company workflows.
Sankt Augustin – At the FACHPACK trade fair in Nuremberg from September 23 to 25, Fraunhofer SCAI will present the latest version of its packaging software PackAssistant. The new pairing feature gives users an additional way to influence the calculated packing arrangement. This is particularly useful when exact positioning or a specific grouping of two parts is required. Users can either specify how the two parts should be placed relative to each other or adopt automatically generated pairing suggestions and adjust them to their needs. Careful placement of pairs helps reduce the risk of damage to sensitive component surfaces during transport. It is also possible to define a minimum distance between the two paired parts.
Automation add-on module speeds up workflow
Another new feature is an add-on module for workflow automation. Through an programming interface, PackAssistant can receive data from other programs, automatically create projects, and immediately start the optimization process. There is no limit to the number of projects, which speeds up batch calculations and enables deep integration into company processes. The add-on module can be used in two ways: via an Excel add-in or by directly using the programming interface.
A further new function provides a more realistic representation of the packing results: 3D models of containers can now be used as backgrounds. This means calculated packing arrangements appear directly within the chosen container model, allowing packers to quickly see how the packed result will look inside the selected container.
Leading software for optimized packing of identical parts in containers
Transport volume costs money. That’s where PackAssistant comes in to help reduce the required space. The software suggests several packing patterns to arrange identical components in standardized load carriers efficiently. It takes into account clearances, packing density, compartments, regularity, and weight. The basis for this is 3D CAD data. As a result, the program provides reliable key figures for material flow planning even at the planning stage – without the need for physical prototypes. The software is designed to be simple and intuitive to use.
At FACHPACK in Nuremberg, scapos AG, a Fraunhofer SCAI spin-off, will present the new features live in Hall 7, Booth 7-517.
