Dr. Anja Schork Receives “Junior Faculty Award 2025”

Birgit Niesing Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Deutsches Zentrum für Diabetesforschung

The journal 'Metabolism' honors DZD researcher Dr. Anja Schork with the Junior Faculty Award 2025. The physician and scientist receives the award for her significant contribution as first author of the publication “Differential risk assessment in persons at risk of type 2 diabetes using urinary peptidomics”.

The publication describes how urine peptidomics can help identify individuals with prediabetes who are at particularly high risk of chronic kidney disease, heart failure, and coronary heart disease. The method offers great potential for early risk stratification and thus for targeted preventive measures before clinical disease occurs.

    Metabolism Junior Faculty Award
The “Metabolism Junior Faculty Award” has been presented annually by the journal Metabolism since 2012 and honors outstanding publications that appeared in the previous year and whose first authors are in the early stages of their careers. An international jury of experts evaluates the contributions in terms of their innovative strength, scientific quality, and significance for the further development of metabolic research. With this award, Metabolism aims to specifically promote the next generation of academic leaders.

    About the person
Dr. Anja Schork completed her medical training and doctorate at the University Hospital of Tübingen. She currently works as a senior physician and clinical scientist in the Department of Diabetology, Endocrinology, and Nephrology and at the DZD partner Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM) of Helmholtz Munich at the University of Tübingen. Her research work lies at the interface of nephrology and diabetes/prediabetes, investigating the mechanisms underlying kidney and metabolic diseases and translating experimental and molecular findings into personalized treatment strategies.
