ISL position paper: Ownership structure of major terminal operators in the EU

ISL published new discussion paper on terminal concessions. More than half of container terminal concessions in EU held by non-EU operators

ISL has just published a new discussion paper on terminal operations in the EU. The report, based on data from ISL’s Terminal and Maritime Company Databases, finds that more than half of terminal concessions in the EU’s top 30 container terminals are held by non-EU operators. One sixth of the overall capacity is controlled by China alone.

The report, which has been financed by ISL’s Sponsoring Group, concludes that terminal competition is functioning normally in most seaports, but also highlights port ranges where concentration may raise concerns.
