„Physik-Preis Dresden“ for Oxford physicist Dr. Adam Nahum

Janne Stolte Pressestelle
Technische Universität Dresden

On 14th January 2020, the ”Physik-Preis Dresden” of the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS) and Technische Universität Dresden will be awarded to Dr. Adam Nahum from Oxford University. The award ceremony as part of a festive colloquium starts at 4 p.m. in the Recknagel-Bau of TU Dresden.

In his still young career, Adam Nahum has already made a number of excellent and highly regarded scientific contributions. His outstanding ability to combine concepts from different areas of theoretical physics to a universal understanding of the behav-iour of complex systems and thus to gain deep insights is particularly characteristic of him.
"The originality of his approaches and the extraordinary diversity of his research topics ideally embody the basic idea behind the ”Physik-Preis Dresden”, explains Prof. Walter Strunz, Chairman of the Prize Committee, the decision in favour of Adam Nahum. Based on the idea "The future belongs to those who cooperate", it is the aim of the prize to honour those outstanding researchers in whose work both DRESDEN-concept part-ners, MPI-PKS and TU Dresden, are particularly interested.
Several groups of TU Dresden and the MPI-PKS are working on Nahum’s research areas , including quantum many-particle physics, non-equilibrium weight or quantum chaos. Therefore, it is of no wonder that many of the Dresden physicists are looking forward to the one-week stay of the award winner with several scientific talks and a lot of room for discussions.
On the award winner Adam Nahum
Adam Nahum studied physics and philosophy in Oxford and Chicago and received his PhD at Oxford University in 2013 on critical phenomena in loop models. After a post-doctoral phase at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he returned to Ox-ford University in 2017.
    About the ”Physik-Preis Dresden”
The ”Physik-Preis Dresden” was founded in 2015 by the Dresden physicist Peter Fulde in order to strengthen Dresden's attractiveness in the scientific landscape and, at the same time, to intensify the cooperation between the MPI-PKS and the Faculty of Physics at TU Dresden. Another goal is to involve the prize winners, outstanding research per-sonalities, more strongly into this cooperation. The prize, which is endowed with 5,000 euros, is awarded annually, alternating between TU Dresden and the MPI-PKS.

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
