Der kenianische Dichter Abdalla wurde bekannt durch seine 1969-72 auf Toilettenpapier im Gefängnis verfassten Verse gegen die Kenyatta Regierung. Seit deren Veröffentlichung lebt der in Hamburg ansässige Literat im Exil, zunächst in Tansania, dann in London, seit 1995 in Deutschland. Das vorgestellte Buch “Abdilatif Abdalla: Poet in Politics” von Rose Marie Beck (Universität Leipzig) und Kai Kresse (Columbia University, New York) beleuchtet sein literarisches und politisches Leben. Es ist das Ergebnis einer Konferenz anlässlich seiner Pensionierung als Dozent für Suahili an der Leipziger Universität.
