India and Germany are widely expected to shoulder greater responsibility in global affairs. Each country plays a pivotal role within its world region and has become increasingly visible in global diplomacy. India’s democratic politics, growing economy, and long-standing ambition to become a global player make it a potential key partner in global governance. Germany and India have a “strategic partnership,” regular governmental consultations, and a collective bid for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council. And yet, surprisingly, Indo-German relations are far from realising their full potential. The panel discussion will look into the recent dynamics of Indo-German cooperation as well as its future prospects. The panellists will address factors standing in the way of closer bilateral relations and shed light on the global power shifts that may bring the two countries closer together down the road.
