Der Dreißigjährige Krieg ist berüchtigt für ein Ausmaß an Blutvergießen, Massakern und Grausamkeiten, das in der europäischen Geschichte wohl beispiellos ist. Die Tagungsteilnehmer stellen sich der Frage, ob und in welcher Weise die häufige Konfrontation mit Kriegsgräueln über mehrere Jahrzehnte hinweg den politischen, rechtlichen und theologischen Diskurs in Europa während des Dreißigjährigen Krieges und nachfolgenden Jahrzehnten prägte.
