Darwin ist der Begründer der modernen Evolutionstheorie. Sie gibt eine Antwort darauf, wie die immense Artenvielfalt auf unserer Erde entstand. Mit Darwin wird verständlich, warum sich Leben ständig verändert, neue Arten entstehen und andere aussterben.
Nicht nur als Zoologe und Geologe setzte Darwin Meilensteine, sondern auch als Botaniker. Auch wenn er sich als "botanischen Ignoramus" bezeichnete, ist er ein Pionier der botanischen Forschung. Darwins Bedeutung für die Botanik steht im Mittelpunkt des Vortrags.
