ZUR PERSON:
Philipp Ther, geboren 1967 in Mittelberg/Österreich, ist seit Oktober 2010 Professor für Geschichte Ostmitteleuropas/"Nation Building" an der Universität Wien. 1988-93 Studium der Geschichte, Soziologie und Politikwissenschaften an der Universität Regensburg, der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München und der Georgetown University, 1993 M.A. in Geschichte ebendort. 1997 Promotion an der Freien Universität Berlin. 1997-98 John F. Kennedy Fellow am Center for European Studies der Harvard University. 1998-2002 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und stellvertretender Geschäftsführer am Zentrum für Vergleichende Geschichte Europas in Berlin. 2002-07 Juniorprofessor für Polen- und Ukrainestudien an der Kulturwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder. 2007-10 Professor für Europäische Geschichte am European University Institute, Florenz.
Forschungsschwerpunkte: Kulturgeschichte Zentraleuropas im "langen" 19. Jahrhundert, Musik und Geschichte; Vergleichende Nationalismusstudien, Migrationsgeschichte mit einem Schwerpunkt auf Zwangsmigrationen, Kommunismusforschung; Geschichte der Transformationszeit; Geschichtstheorie, insbesondere Komparatistik und Kulturtransfer.
