Innerhalb der Sommerschule halten in- und ausländische Dozenten Vorträge, dazu gibt es Seminare, Firmenbesichtigungen und Laborpraktika. Gespräche mit Experten aus der Solarbranche und dem Spitzencluster „Solarvalley Mitteldeutschland" sind ebenso inklusive wie eine Kontaktbörse.
Im Programm der Sommerschule werden Erkenntnisse über die universitären Lehrinhalte hinaus diskutiert und aktuelle Forschungsthemen aufgegriffen. Zu den Themen gehören die wissenschaftlichen Fortschritte in den Bereichen „kristalline Solarzellen", „anorganische Dünnschicht-Solarzellen", „organische Photovoltaiksysteme", „Modul- und Systemintegration" sowie „Lichtmanagement und innovative Wirkprinzipien".
Neben der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg sind die TU Ilmenau und die TU Bergakademie Freiberg beteiligt.
