Angesehene Referenten halten Fachvorträge zu Asteroiden, Kometen und zum Sonnensystem. Sie beschäftigen sich auch mit Exoplaneten – die sich außerhalb unseres Sonnensystems befinden – und mit protoplanetaren Scheiben. Diese liegen ringförmig aus Gas und Staub um junge Sterne.
Die Experimentelle Astrophysik an der UDE will Schlüsselfragen zu Planeten und ihrer Entwicklung beantworten. Wie halten beispielsweise nanometergroße Eispartikeln in protoplanetaren Scheiben, oder wie konnten eisenreiche Planeten wie der Merkur entstehen? Geforscht wird in Laborexperimenten, unter Schwerelosigkeit und in (Computer)-modellen.
