Referent der heutigen Veranstaltung: Prof. Dr. Andrzej Szczerski (Krakau)
Modernist architecture and design contributed significantly to the construction of identity of independent Poland. Since the end of 1920s modernism was quickly accepted by artists and architects, and supported by private and state patronage. The new opportunities and high standards of modernist education available at home reduced the number of Polish students abroad, including those at Bauhaus. As a result, while widely known in professional circles, the school had limited impact on Polish art scene. This fact allows us to rethink the map of Bauhaus relevance and appreciate complexities of artistic networks in Europe before 1939.
Prof. Dr. Andrzej Szczerski is Associate Professor at the Institute of Art History at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Director for Academic Affairs at the National Museum in Kraków (2016-2018), and author of publications and exhibitions on Polish and East-Central European art and architecture in 19th and 20th centuries.
