Behandelt werden die Strukturierung natürlicher Systeme, die Beschädigung der Ökosysteme durch den Menschen und Strategien zur Entwicklung von Nachhaltigkeit. Es werden zum einen zugrundeliegende Konzepte ("Lehrbuchwissen") vermittelt, zum anderen Einblicke in aktuelle Diskussionen und Entwicklungen der Ökologie als Wissenschaft und der Wechselwirkung mit ihrem gesellschaftlichen Umfeld gegeben. (Teil I der Ringvorlesung jeweils im Wintersemester)
