In seinem Vortrag am Kennedy-Institut, "The Crime System", wird Mark Seltzer aus dem Forschungsbereich seines Buches "Serial Killers: Death and Life in America's Wound Culture", 1998, vortragen. Hierbei geht es um die Bedingungen der Repräsentation von Gewalt in amerikanischen Reality-TV-Programmen.
Professor Mark Seltzer ist ein renommierter amerikanischer Wissenschaftler, der im Bereich der Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft arbeitet und hier international anerkannte Werke vor allem zu den Themen Machtstrukturen, Gewalt und Technologie sowie Körperlichkeit verfaßt hat. Sein Buch zu Henry James, "Henry James and the Art of Power", 1984, gilt als wichtiger Beitrag zur James-Forschung. Seine Monographie "Bodies and Machines", 1992, war ein wichtiger Beitrag, in dem Seltzer darlegt, wie sich im 19. Jahrhundert mit dem Aufkommen der Maschinenkultur die Repräsentationsformen des menschlichen Körpers ändern.
