Digital networking is changing the way research and science results are communicated. More and more scientific and academic institutions, research projects and science communicators are discovering the Fediverse – a decentralised network of platforms such as Mastodon, Pixelfed and PeerTube – as a space for exchange, discussion and the dissemination of research results.
This page offers you a comprehensive overview of German instances in the Fediverse that deal with science or are operated by scientific and academic institutions. Here you will find platforms where press releases are shared, research projects are presented and scientific debates are held – free of algorithms and in an open, public-interest-oriented environment.
Please note: Some instances are not available to the public but are used for internal communication within the institution. This list is not exhaustive. If any instance operators are missing or new instances are added, please send us a message at service@idw-online.de. We are happy to maintain and add to this list.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
