Infrarot-Aufnahmen der vier untersuchten Galaxien. Mit dem Keck-Interferometer konnte die innere Region der leuchtkräftigen Galaxienkerne in Details aufgelöst werden. Die daraus abgeleitete ringförmige Struktur für die Galaxie NGC 4151 ist im Teilbild oben rechts gezeigt. Während die gesamte Ausdehnung dieser Galaxie mehrere 10000 Lichtjahre umfasst, beträgt der Radius des inneren Rings lediglich 0,13 Lichtjahre. Die Entfernung jeder der vier Galaxien ist in Millionen von Lichtjahren angegeben, zusammen mit der entsprechenden Rotverschiebung z im Spektrum.
