a) europäische Länder: Der Grad der Religiosität ist selbst in europäischen Ländern mit gleicher Religion höchst unterschiedlich. Während in den katholischen Ländern Italien ein Drittel und in Polen fast die Hälfte der Befragten Religion für sehr wichtig in ihrem Leben halten, tun das in Frankreich nur 13 Prozent. b) außereuropäische Länder: Deutlich höher als in Europa ist die Religiosität in den meisten außereuropäischen Ländern. An der Spitze liegen muslimische Staaten. In der Türkei ist für 75 Prozent der Bevölkerung, in Jordanien, Mali, Ägypten, Indonesien und Irak sogar für mehr als 90 Prozent Religion sehr wichtig. China und Japan weichen stark von diesem Muster ab.
