Die Kristallstruktur eines kompletten eukaryotischen RNA-Exosom-Komplexes zeigt, wie dieser sein Substrat erkennt und verarbeitet. Die RNA (schwarz) wird von den „cap“-Proteinen (gelb, beige, orange) erkannt und entwunden. Anschließend wird sie durch den Komplex gefädelt und zur aktiven Untereinheit geleitet (violett), wo der eigentliche Abbau stattfindet.
