Mehrere verbundene Ringe dienen dabei als Modell für ein frustriertes System: Egal wie die Magnetisierung des mittleren Stäbchens ausgerichtet ist, ergeben sich immer energetisch nicht perfekte Bedingungen, d.h., unvermeidlich treffen zwei Nordpole oder zwei Südpole aufeinander – siehe gelbe Markierungen.
