Am ICBM entwickelte Drifter (hier 2020 bei einer Expedition des Forschungsschiffes Heincke in der Nordsee) treiben derzeit noch passiv mit den Meeresströmungen. Die neuen Drifter sollen mit einem segelähnlichen Antrieb ausgestattet werden.
