Auf der Suche nach der Insel der Stabilität: Diese Karte zeigt die bekannten Atomkerne zwischen Uran und dem Element 118 (grau). Die Massen dreier Nobelium-Isotope (rot) hat eine Kollaboration nun extrem präzise bestimmt. Kerne, die mit ihnen in einer radioaktiven Zerfallskette liegen, sind gelb dargestellt. Einen stabilen Atomkern vermuten die Physiker am Schnittpunkt der Linien.
