Das Bild zeigt die enge Beziehung zwischen Zellen des Darmimmunsystems (rot und grün) und dem Darmnervensystem (blau). Bei Reizdarmpatienten scheinen die Immunzellen vermehrt neuroaktive Substanzen zu produzieren, die aufgrund der Nähe zu Nerven diese sensibilisieren.
