Aufnahme des Kohlenstoffsterns CW Leonis mit seiner schalenförmig aufgebauten Staubhülle. Diese besteht vor allem aus Ruß, der in großen Mengen von dem Stern produziert wird. Im inneren Bereich der Hülle wurde nun von Herschel heißer Wasserdampf entdeckt. Aufgenommen mit dem Very Large Telescope der Europäischen Südsternwarte in Chile. Norden ist oben und Osten ist links.
