Der im Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe entwickelte Mikroreaktor ist 65 cm lang, 290 kg schwer und ermöglicht einen Durchsatz von 1700 Kilogramm flüssigen Chemikalien pro Stunde. 'Mikro' ist sein Innenleben mit Mikrovermischern und mehreren Zehntausend Mikrokanälen, in denen die Substanzen zur Reaktion gebracht und die Reaktionswärme von mehreren 100 kW abgeführt werden.
