Der Augsburger Georg Christoph Kilian publizierte 1764 eine stark gekürzte Übertragung aus dem Englischen des ursprünglich französich verfassten Werkes von David Le Roy. Schon der englische Plagiator hatte aus Sparsamkeit zwei Stiche zu einem zusammengefasst, so dass hier der Parthenon auf der Akropolis neben einem römischen Bau in der Unterstadt zu liegen kommt. Trotzdem war die deutsche Übersetzung mit drei Auflagen recht erfolgreich.
