Titan-Legierungen im Rasterelektronenmikroskop. Auf der linken Seite ein Span aus der herkömmlichen Titan-Legierung, auf der rechten der aus der lanthanhaltigen Legierung. Entscheidend ist, dass der lanthanhaltige Span zwischen den einzelnen Segmenten nur wenig Zusammenhalt hat und deshalb leicht zerbröckelt.
