MR-Schnitte durch das Gehirn einer 49jährigen Frau, die seit zehn Jahren alkoholabhängig war, beim Beginn ihrer Behandlung. Die alkoholbedingte Hirnschrumpfung ist an erweiterten Hirnwasserkammern und -furchen erkennbar. Mit der Abstinenz gewann das Gehirn der Patientin rund drei Prozent an Volumen. Farbig hervorgehoben sind die Bereiche, in denen bei der Mehrzahl der 15 untersuchten Patienten eine derartige Hirnregeneration beobachtet wurde.
