Ein rechteckiger Block aus Acrylglas mit Riss (0,6 mm) wird von oben und unten mittels einer vorgegebenen Geschwindigkeit v belastet, die bis zu v0 anwächst und danach konstant gehalten wird. Nach einer horizontalen Ausbreitung des Risses kann eine Rissverzweigung, abhängig von der Belastungsgeschwindigkeit, beobachtet werden. Die gelbe Linie innerhalb der rot hinterlegten Finiten Elemente stellt den tatsächlichen Riss dar (rechts), (Bilder: SimTech).
