Zusammen mit Partnern aus Industrie und Forschung ist der Lehrstuhl für Datenverarbeitung der TU München (Prof. Klaus Diepold) am Forschungsprojekt OpenTC beteiligt. Ziel ist die Entwicklung und Implementierung von Software- und Hardware-Komponenten nach den Spezifikationen der Trusted Computing Group im Umfeld von Open Source Lösungen. Im Projekt OpenTC sind 23 Partner aus ganz Europa beteiligt, unter anderem Advanced Micro Devices, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Infineon und SUSE Linux. Das auf drei Jahre angesetzte Projekt wird durch die EU gefördert, das finanzielle Gesamtvolumen beträgt rund 17 Millionen Euro.
Der Lehrstuhl für Datenverarbeitung der TUM ist mit einem Anteil von ca. 350.000 Euro beteiligt. Im Gesamtprojekt ist er verantwortlich für die Entwicklung von Konzepten für das digitale Rechtemanagement (DRM). Dabei sollen standardisierte MPEG-21 Komponenten eingesetzt werden und die Lösung auf einem TPM-Chip (Trusted Platform Module) basieren. Das resultierende DRM-System soll multimediale Inhalte so absichern, dass in einem Open Source Betriebssystem wie Linux die Rechte und Interessen der Anbieter sowie der Benutzer gleichermaßen geschützt werden können.
