MPI-Forschern gelingt erstmalig die Kartierung der Aktivität, die durch elektrische Mikrostimulation des Gehirns ausgelöst wird
Eine neue Technik, mit der man die Gehirnaktivität mit Hilfe des BOLD-Signals (Blood Oxygen Level Dependent Signal) während der elektrischen Mikrostimulation im Gehirn von Primaten genau aufzeichnen kann, haben Forscher des Max-Planck-Instituts für biologische Kybernetik in Tübingen entwickelt. Diese Kombination aus elektrischer Mikrostimulation und funktioneller Magnetresonanztomographie verspricht wesentlich genauere Einblicke in die funktionelle Organisation des Gehirns und seine Schaltkreise (Neuron, 22. Dezember 2005).
