In seiner heutigen öffentlichen Sitzung hat der Senat der EBERHARD KARLS UNIVERSITÄT TÜBINGEN die Wahl von Prof. Dr. Bernd Engler zum neuen Rektor durch den Universitätsrat vom 27. April bestätigt. Das Stimmenverhältnis betrug 35 Ja-Stimmen, eine Enthaltung und eine ungültige Stimme. Damit wird der vom Universitätsrat gewählte und vom Senat bestätigte Kandidat dem Ministerpräsidenten zur Ernennung vorgeschlagen. Das Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst hatte schon zuvor sein Einvernehmen mit der Wahl erteilt. Bernd Engler soll sein Amt am 1. Oktober 2006 antreten. Die Amtszeit beträgt sechs Jahre.
Zur Person:
Bernd Engler (51) studierte Anglistik/Amerikanistik und Philosophie an der Universität Freiburg und an der University of Kent. Promotion und Habilitation in Freiburg. Als Heisenberg-Stipendiat Forschungsaufenthalte in den USA und England. 1992 Ruf auf den Lehrstuhl für Amerikanistik in Tübingen. 2001 Landeslehrpreis. Sprecher des Graduiertenschulen-Antrags "Textuality and the Dynamics of Cultures" in der Exzellenzinitiative.
