Dipl.-Math. Evelin Hofbauer und Dipl.-Inf. Bernhard Kempter sind mit einem mit jeweils 4000 Dollar dotierten Chorafas-Preis 1999 ausgezeichnet worden. Die Chorafas-Stiftung vergibt ihre Preise für herausragende wissenschaftliche Arbeiten in den Ingenieur-, Sozial- und Naturwissenschaften sowie der Medizin.
Evelin Hofbauer wurde für ihre am Lehrstuhl für Mathematische Statistik der TUM (Prof. Claudia Klüppelberg) angefertigte Diplomarbeit "Optimale Investitionsstrategien für Unternehmen mit stochastischem Risiko" ausgezeichnet. Bernhard Kempter erhielt den Preis für seine bei Prof. Heinz-Gerhard Hegering (TU München/Leibniz-Rechenzentrum) verfasste Diplomarbeit "Entwurf eines Java/CORBA-basierten mobilen Agenten".
