Prof. Dieter Gallwitz in die American Academy of Microbiology gewählt

    Prof. Dr. Dieter Gallwitz, Direktor der Abteilung Molekulare Genetik am Max-Planck-Institut für biophysikalische Chemie, wurde in Anerkennung seiner herausragenden biochemischen und molekulargenetischen Arbeiten über den Spleißmechanismus von Ribonucleinsäuren und den intrazellulären Membrantransport in Hefen zum Mitglied der American Academy of Microbiology gewählt. Er ist damit einer von nur 1700 Wissenschaftlern weltweit, die in der Geschichte der Akademie durch die Wahl zu deren Mitglied ausgezeichnet wurden.

    Dieter Gallwitz Elected Fellow of American Academy of Microbiology

    Washington, D.C. - August 19, 2000 -- Dieter Gallwitz, M. D., Director of the Department of Molecular Genetics at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, Germany, has been elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology. He is honored for a distinguished research career. Dr. Gallwitz's studies of yeast have yielded important discoveries in the microbiology of mRNA splicing and membrane trafficking.

    Academy Fellows are elected by their peers based on their records of outstanding contributions to microbiology, scientific achievement, and leadership. Academy Fellows represent 35 countries and all subspecialties of microbiology, including basic and applied research, teaching, public health, industry, and government service. Dr. Gallwitz is one of only 1700 scientists elected to Academy Fellowship in the history of the organization.

    The American Academy of Microbiology is the honorific leadership group within the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). ASM is the world's oldest and largest life science organisation and has more than 42,000 members worldwide. ASM's mission is to advance the microbiological sciences and promote the use of scientific knowledge for improved health, economic and environmental wellbeing.
