Vanderbilt-Professor Hortense Spillers spricht am 25. Juni 2008 an der HU
Im Rahmen der Distinguished W.E.B. Du Bois Lectures spricht am 25. Juni Prof. Hortense Spillers an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Hortense Spillers, die die "Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Professur of English" an der Vanderbilt University in Nashville inne hat, referiert ab 18.30 Uhr im Senatssaal der Universität, Unter den Linden 6, zum Thema: "The Idea of Black Culture: Some Aspects of Diaspora". Der Vortrag soll vor allem Aufschluss darüber geben, was Afrikanisch-Amerikanische Kultur eigentlich ist und wie sie sich im Hinblick auf die Erfahrung der gezwungenen Emigration (Diaspora) verhält.
Spillers Schwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen Rasse, Geschlecht und Psychoanalyse. Die Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaftlerin gehört zu den führenden Theoretikerinnen von Afrikanisch-Amerikanischer Literatur und Kultur. Zu ihren Veröffentlichungen zählen The Idea of Black Culture (2007), Black, White, and in Color: Essays on American Literature and Culture (2003) und Comparative American Identities: Race, Sex, and Nationality in the Modern Text (1991).
Die Veranstaltung wird moderiert und kommentiert von PD Dr. Reinhard Isensee, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
