Im Rahmen der Ausstellung "Die griechische Klassik - Idee oder Wirklichkeit" im Martin Gropius-Bau veranstaltet das John F. Kennedy-Institut der FU ein Kolloquium (in englischer Sprache). Thema der Veranstaltung ist: "Thomas Jefferson and the Ideals of the American Revolution". Am Beispiel von Thomas Jeffersons Architektur wird auf den Vorbildcharakter der Klassik auch für die amerikanische Revolution aufmerksam hingewiesen.
Es diskutieren zwei Historiker von Jeffersons "University of Virginia" - die Professoren Peter Onuf und Gordon S. Wood -, zwei deutsche Jefferson-Kenner - die Professoren Peter Nicolaisen und Ekkehart Krippendorff - und der Berliner Politologe, Prof. Wolf-Dieter Narr. Die Moderation hat Prof. Margit Mayer vom John F. Kennedy-Institut der Freien Universität Berlin. Da es kein Historiker-Fachgespräch sondern eines über die aktuelle Relevanz von historischer Erinnerung ist, sind Gäste herzlich willkommen.
Die Veranstaltung wird unterstützt von der Freien Universität Berlin, der Kulturabteilung der Botschaft der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika und dem International Center for Jefferson Studies, Monticello.
