Die Folgen der globalen Umweltverschmutzung am Beispiel des Strandes von Bahia in Brasilien zeigt die neue Ausstellung im Lateinamerika-Institut (LAI) der Freien Universität Berlin.

Barretto hat über Monate das Müllaufkommen aus 26 Ländern aller fünf Kontinente an einem 86 Kilometer langen Abschnitt der Costa de Coqueiros des brasilianischen Bundesstaates Bahia dokumentiert. Der angeschwemmte Müll verschmutzt nicht nur die Strände Bahias: Er bedroht auch die einheimische Tierwelt.
Barretto macht durch die symbolische Rückführung des Mülls in seine Herkunftsländer auf das Problem aufmerksam. Nach Kalifornien, wo er sein Projekt der Surfrider Foundation vorgestellt hat, ist Deutschland seine erste Station in Europa.
Die brasilianische Botschaft in Berlin, das Brasilianische Kulturinstitut in Berlin (ICBRA) sowie das Fachlabor Jacobs+Schulz unterstützen diese Ausstellung, die u.a. bereits an der Universität Hamburg und im Bundesumweltamt in Berlin gezeigt wurde.
