Als eines von sechs Zentren des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) bietet es ein Forum für den Austausch zwischen Universitäten, Forschungszentren, Instituten und Unternehmen sowie Beratern und Risikokapitalgebern im Bereich der chemischen Nanotechnologie. Es initiiert und moderiert die Kommunikation zwischen den Beteiligten und unterstützt neue Projekte. Mit 147 Mitgliedern versteht sich das Kompetenzzentrum als Informationsplattform: Es unterrichtet über die neuesten Ergebnisse und Trends aus der Nanotechnologie und bietet Bildungsangebote für Studierende, Wissenschaftler und die Öffentlichkeit.
