Auto-CAD, CATIA, 3D-Studio MAX sind die Themen, die die Software-Anwender der neunziger Jahre in Atem halten. Viele Konstruktionsaufgaben in der Planung und Fertigung, medizinische Anwendungen, Projekte der Werbung und Virtueller Realitäten erfordern 3D- und Stereo-Grafik-Programmierung. Bereits jetzt kann das Angebot an Aufgaben und Stellen für 3D-Programmierer nicht mehr bedient werden.
Nun bieten die TU Dresden und die media projekt GmbH ab September 1998 eine Ausbildung über acht Monate an, die sich insbesondere an Hochschulabsolventen (Informatiker, Informationstechniker, Mathematiker, Physiker u.ä.) ohne Leistungsbezug nach AFG wendet. Eingeschlossen ist ein zweimonatiges Praktikum. Das Projekt wird mit EU-Mitteln gefördert.
