Fraunhofer-Institut FOKUS unterstützt Potsdamer Yachtclub mit drahtloser Kommunikationsinfrastruktur
Berlin 13. Juni 2003 - Die 60 sm Regatta des Potsdamer Yachtclubs in Berlin-Wannsee wird in diesem Jahr mit Kommunikationstechnik des Fraunhofer-Instituts FOKUS unterstützt. Die Positionen der Yachten werden von den Begleitschiffen drahtlos in das Clubhaus an der Königsallee übertragen und dort permanent live präsentiert. Die Regatta "60 Seemeilen" von Berlin wird jährlich veranstaltet und dauert je nach Windverhältnissen zwischen 8 und 15 Stunden. Start ist Freitag, 13. Juni 2003, 16:00 Uhr im Potsdamer Yachtclub.
"Moderne Kommunikationstechnik wird uns in allen Lebensbereichen unterstützen." meint Berthold Butscher, stellvertretender Leiter des Fraunhofer-Instituts FOKUS, begeisterter Segler und Mitglied im Potsdamer Yachtclub. "WLAN (Wireless local Area Networks) ist dabei ein schneller und kostengünstiger Einstieg in die drahtlose mobile Kommunikation im Nahbereich. Mit UMTS, der 3.Generation des Mobilfunks, werden wir noch weitaus mehr Möglichkeiten haben, uns mobil zu bewegen - auch auf dem Wasser."
