In its Agenda 2030, the United Nations has declared to"promote peaceful and inclusive societies" as their global sustainable development goal (SDG). On 15 November 2017, the peace and conflict research institute BICC will become part of the Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research.
"We conduct research on the effects of organized violence that manifest themselves worldwide in bloody violent conflicts or forced displacement," Professor Dr Conrad Schetter, Director for Research at BICC illustrates. "Our work is closely linked to the SDG16, which is to promote peaceful and inclusive societies", Schetter explains the joining of BICC to the international consortium on sustainability research under the aegis of the University of Bonn.
Besides the University of Bonn and the Center for Development Research, the Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research will consist of BICC and three other important institutions of the science region of Bonn: The United Nations University's Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), the German Development Institute (DIE) and the Bonn Rhein-Sieg University.
The signing ceremony on Wednesday, 15 November at 13:30 at the information booth of the University in the Bonn Zone will be attended by the Rector of the University of Bonn, Professor Dr Dr h.c. Michael Hoch, Professor Dr Jakob Rhyner, Vice-Rector Europe of the United Nations University, the Directors of BICC, Michael Dedek and Professor Dr Conrad Schetter, the Director of the DIE, Professor Dr Dirk Messner and the President of the Bonn Rhein-Sieg University, Professor Dr Hartmut Ihne.
