The German government appointed Prof Dr Friederike Welter (IfM Bonn/University of Siegen) and Prof Dr Guido Bünstorf (University of Kassel) to the Expert Commission on Research and Innovation (EFI) yesterday. Their appointment by the Federal Cabinet strengthens Bünstorf and Welter's expertise in the EFI, particularly in the areas of the Mittelstand and entrepreneurship, as well as the knowledge economy and people-based knowledge transfer.
The IfM president, who also holds a professorship at the University of Siegen, has long worked on innovation performance in SMEs in general and women's innovation activity in particular. Other research focuses are the contextual embedding of entrepreneurial activity and the social contribution of the Mittelstand. She is currently investigating the diverse challenges for the Mittelstand as a result of the transformation to a social-ecological market economy. She was most recently honoured for her entrepreneurship and SME research with admission to the Academia Europaea in 2021 and the circle of 21st Century Entrepreneurship Research Fellows in 2020.
