Im Rahmen der Ernst Fraenkel - Distinguished Lecture Series spricht Prof. Dr. David Reynolds von der University of Cambridge am 19. Mai am John F. Kennedy-Institut für Nordamerika-Studien der Freien Universität Berlin. Das Thema seines Vortrages in englischer Sprache lautet: "D-Day and the Origins of the Atlantic Alliance". Damit nimmt Prof. Reynolds Bezug auf den 60. Jahrestag der Landung der Alliierten in der Normandie und der Befreiung Europas.
Prof. Reynolds lehrt Internationale Geschichte am Christ's College. Er ist einer der ausgewiesenen Kenner der anglo-amerikanischen Beziehungen und Verfasser vieler, bekannter Bücher, darunter sind: "The Creation of the Anglo-American Alliance, 1937-1941: A Study in Competitve Co-operation" (1981), "Britannia Overruled: British Policy and World Power in the 20th Century" (1991) oder "Rich Relations: The American Occupation of Britain, 1942-1945" (1995) und "One World Divisible: A Global History since 1945" (2000). Zur Zeit arbeitet er an einem Werk über Sir Winston Churchill und den Zweiten Weltkrieg.
Die Ernst Fraenkel Distinguished Lecture Series wird von der Fritz Thyssen-Stiftung und der Freien Universität Berlin gefördert.
