The Europlanet Science Congress (EPSC), Europe’s largest annual gathering of planetary scientists, will be held at Freie Universität Berlin between September 8 and 13, 2024. This year’s conference is being jointly organized by the Department of Earth Sciences at Freie Universität Berlin, the Europlanet Society, the Institute of Planetary Research at the German Aerospace Center, and the Museum für Naturkunde – Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Science. Over 1100 participants from around the world are expected to attend.
The overarching aim of the Europlanet Science Congress 2024 is to cover a broad range of topics related to planetary science and missions to explore the Solar System. The congress program will include a mixture of scientific presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions.
One of the main highlights of the conference program will be a public lecture at Zeiss Grand Planetarium on Thursday, September 12, at 8:00 p.m. Three well-known scientists will hold brief presentations about their research:
• What’s up on Mars? (Dr. Baptiste Chide, Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planétologie [IRAP], Toulouse, France)
• Planetary exploration at ESA and unlocking the mysteries of Venus (Dr. Anne Grete Straume, European Space Agency [ESA]/European Space Research and Technology Centre [ESTEC])
• Exploration of the Moon (Dr. Mark Wieczorek, Institut de physique du globe de Paris [IPGP], Université Paris Cité, France)
The event is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Entrance is free, but it is recommended that interested parties reserve a place via phone or email. More information can be found here: https://www.planetarium.berlin/veranstaltungen/news-solar-system
Researchers attending the meeting will also be visiting several schools in the Berlin area to share their enthusiasm for planetary exploration with young people in the city.
