The universities are concluding a cooperation agreement regarding their future partnership. Building on a wide range of existing projects, this will consolidate and expand the collaboration between the two institutions.
The Rector of the University of Cologne, Professor Dr Joybrato Mukherjee, and the President of New York University (NYU), Professor Dr Linda G. Mills, signed a cooperation agreement in New York yesterday that encompasses a strategic partnership in the fields of research and teaching, exchange opportunities for academics and students, and joint educational and research events. The two universities intend to promote and expand cooperation between them, which includes holding regular meetings to coordinate, organize, evaluate, and advance their joint activities.
Rector Professor Dr Joybrato Mukherjee said: “This new partnership brings together two major, research-intensive universities to open up new opportunities for collaboration and exchange for researchers and students. This benefits both sides and strengthens our transatlantic network. I would like to thank everyone involved who carried out the essential groundwork and thus made this agreement possible.”
NYU President Linda G. Mills said: “The signing of this agreement signifies an exciting new partnership between our universities, as we make a mutual commitment to collaborative research and create new pathways for exchange. We thank our partners at the University of Cologne and everyone who labored behind the scenes to make today possible.”
The signing took place at the Elmer Holmes Bobst Library at NYU. Alongside Professor Mukherjee, the University of Cologne was also represented at the signing ceremony by the former Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Professor Dr Johanna Hey, and the Head of the University of Cologne’s Liaison Office in North America, Dr Eva Bosbach.
The University of Cologne and NYU are already collaborating on a wide range of research projects in the humanities, natural sciences, law, and economic and social sciences. A symposium that will bring together plant scientists from both institutions is currently being planned to launch the activities under the partnership agreement. This is expected to take place in Cologne in May 2027.
