Im Rahmen der "Ernst Fraenkel - Distinguished Lecture Series" spricht Prof. Dr. Teresa de Lauretis/University of California, Santa Cruz, am 13. Juni im John F. Kennedy-Institut für Nordamerika-Studien der Freien Universität Berlin. Das Thema ihres Vortrages in englischer Sprache lautet: "Reflections for the End of a Century. 9/11, Freud, Djuna Barnes, and the Death Drive".
Die aus Italien stammende Literatur- und Sprachwissenschaftlicherin Prof. de Lauretis hat sich als Kennerin der vergleichenden Literatur- und Filmwissenschaften ausgewiesen, mit Schwerpunkten u.a. in Semiotik, Psychoanalyse und feministischer Theorie. Zu ihren zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen zählen "Umberto Eco" (1984), "Feminism, Semiotics, Cinema" (1984) oder "The Practice of Love" (1994). In diesem Jahr erscheint ihre Essaysammlung "Figures of Resistance: Essays in Feminist Theory". Zur Zeit bereitet Prof. de Lauretis eine Arbeit über Freuds Triebtheorie vor.
Die Ernst Fraenkel Distinguished Lecture Series wird von der Fritz Thyssen-Stiftung und der Freien Universität Berlin gefördert.
