Die Fakultät für Mathematik der TU München lädt am 2. Juli 1999 um 14 Uhr zu einem Festkolloquium anläßlich des 60. Geburtstages von Prof. Karl-Heinz Hoffmann ein. Die Veranstaltung findet im John-von-Neumann Hörsaal S 0320 (TUM-Südgelände, Eingang Barerstraße 23 oder Arcisstraße 16) statt.
Grußworte werden unter anderem Prof. Klaus Landfried, Präsident der Hochschulrektorenkonferenz, Prof. Heinrich Nöth, Präsident der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und Prof. Reimar Lüst, Präsident der Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung, sprechen. Den Festvortrag in englischer Sprache hält Prof. Avner Friedman, Minneapolis, einer der führenden amerikanischen Mathematiker, der sich besonders um den Aufbau von Verbindungen der Mathematik mit Industrie und Wirtschaft verdient gemacht hat. Der Sonderforschungsbereich "Mathematische Modellierung, Simulation und Verifikation" und das Graduiertenkolleg "Angewandte Algorithmische Mathematik" führen bereits am 30. Juni und 1. Juli 1999 ein wissenschaftliches Symposium zu Ehren Prof. Hoffmanns in der Katholischen Hochschulgemeinde (KHG), Karlstraße 32, durch.
Prof. Karl-Heinz Hoffmann ist Ordinarius für Angewandte Mathematik der TUM (beurlaubt). Der Leibniz-Preisträger (1991) und vormalige Vorsitzende des Wissenschaftsrates ist derzeit wissenschaftlich-technischer Vorstand des "Center of Advanced European Studies" (caesar) in Bonn und Präsident der Deutschen Mathematiker-Vereinigung.
