Am Montag, 16. Februar 2009, besucht eine Gruppe hochrangiger Kulturpolitiker und Bibliothekare aus 13 Ländern des islamischen Kulturkreises die Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Sachsen-Anhalt (ULB) in Halle. Die Gäste halten sich anlässlich der bibliothekswissenschaftlichen Tagung "Access to Knowledge" in Deutschland auf. Ein Besuch der ULB wurde wegen ihrer Funktion als nationale Sammelstelle für Literatur zur Schwerpunktregion Nahost und zu Geschichte und Gegenwart des Islams in das Rahmenprogramm der Tagung aufgenommen.
Die Tagung wurde von der Präsidentin der International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), Dr. Claudia Lux (Berlin), initiiert und findet im Auswärtigen Amt in Berlin statt. In Halle informieren sich die Gäste u. a. über das von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) geförderte Programm der bibliothekarischen Sondersammelgebiete. Weitere Stationen der Delegation auf ihrer Informationsreise sind die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek Leipzig, die Universitätsbibliothek Leipzig, die Herzogin-Anna-Amalia-Bibliothek in Weimar, die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz und die Bibliothek des Deutschen Bundestags.
